Richmond, VA…..I’m coming for you.

On Sunday Aug 29, 2010, my assistant (Sam Cowan) and I will be making the drive to Richmond, VA to do some guerrilla style nudes in the streets there.  My plan is to shoot everything on Polaroid with one of my SX70′s. For all you digigeeks out there, I will be carting my Nikon D300 up as well. I may do some film shots with my Nikon AF or one of my newly acquired pocket cameras.

Shooting times will be:

12pm

3pm

5:30pm

three models; only one has done a nude shoot before, so this is gonna get real interesting :p

We’re gonna be leaving bright an early at 6:30am Sunday to make the 3.5 hour drive and will arrive around 10:00am to scout locations for the days shoots. During the day, my native Richmond friend and fellow photographer Marcus Hyde will be making an appearance. Marcus does a lot of test shooting for Ford, IMG, etc. Jonathan Thorpe, my photog friend will be making the drive from Washington, DC to hang out as well. I met Jonathan in June during my Morning Encounter series shot on location there. I also have plans to go thrifting if time allows at the Diversity Thrift Store…this place iskickass for deals guys….check it out.

Look for some crazy material in the coming weeks from this trip folks!

MORNING ENCOUNTER~Jessicka ;)

Jessicka (represented by CimaTalent) was the first model to participate in the Morning Encounter series that was kicked off in Washington DC in early June 2010. We had a good time and banged the shoot out early in the AM despite everyone’s reservations. I shot a lot of different stuff and shot for an hour with her. Being the first shoot in the Highlander Motel (Arlington), we really weren’t sure how well the light was gonna be in the room. Fortunately, the light was great and everything meshed well.

Morning Encounter~Jessie ;)

For some background….as many of you may know, I’ve been shooting a series during the last two months called Morning Encounter. The series was kicked off in Washington DC during the beginning of June. Upon my return, I have photographed several other models in order to conclude the series. I wanted to really wait to release images until the image series was finalized and 100% completed. I can finally say that I feel comfortable saying that.

(Back to Jessie.)

I’ve been corresponding with Jessie for probably almost a year now and she and one of the other models were really the reason for my travelling to DC with the crew.  I would have never guessed she and I would create such stunning images. After we finished shooting,  we all chatted for a bit and discovered that she is 100% in charge of all social marketing for one of the major cable networks. She is a really really cool chick with a good head on her shoulders; she does this for the love of art and I respect that. I wish there were more people with that mindset.

The Dan and the Nikon AF

Took a trip to the Dan River the other week with Sam, Brad, and Chad. Needless to say, we had a BLAST. Our bucket cooler got turned over and we ended up chasing beers down the river for a few hours. Met some random people and just floated like it was our profession. I double ziplocked my camera but a hole managed to get into both bags. Needless to say, my camera was FULL of water. This is a partially electronic camera but surprisingly it still works like a charm after I let it dry out a week. Enjoy the film…looks like this because the film canister got full of water and dried prior to development.     Good times.

Sources of creativity

Before I get into the photo above, I’d like to take moment to talk briefly about my favorite website…Craigslist. This site really has revolutionized the way people can reach out and interact with the community both locally and nationally.  Within the last 8 months, I stumbled upon an even better website called searchtempest.com. Searchtempest allows you to do a comprehensive search of Craigslist all at once.  If you’ve spent any time searching multiple cities on Craigslist…you know what I mean. But back to the topic at hand; I scower craigslist on a bidaily basis to catch any and all good deals I can find whether they be camera gear, vintage stereo equipment, etc.

Enter Sigma 105mm 2.8 Macro lens.

Stumbled onto this July 31st compliments of searchtempest

45$ for this 500$ lens.

Back to the photo above, I wanted to study the human eye with a different perspective.  After all, without this essential piece of me, I wouldn’t be writing this blogpost; it’s the middleman of reality and perception.
